Stephen Kimber

Brief Biography

Stephen Kimber, the Rogers Communications Chair in Journalism at the University of King's College in Halifax, is an award-winning writer, editor and broadcaster. He is the author of eight books, including one novel and seven non-fiction titles, as well as co-author of two other nonfiction books. His current work-in-progress is a narrative nonfiction account of the Cuban Five, controversial Cuban spies serving long sentences in U.S. prisons but regarded as heroes in their homeland. For 16 years, he was a political and general interest columnist for the Daily News in Halifax. He is currently the Senior Feature Writer for The Coast, a Halifax weekly, and a weekly columnist for Halifax Metro. Since 1983, he has taught journalism fulltime at the University of King's College, where he specializes in narrative nonfiction. From 1996 to 2003 and in 2007-08, he was Director of the School. In 2001, he completed a Masters in Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction degree at Goucher College in Baltimore, MD. He and his wife, television and film costume designer Jeanie Kimber, live in Halifax.
