There will be a workshop titled - How to Plot a Murder: In this workshop we will look at plotting and writing a mystery, including the effective use of clues, red herrings, cliffhangers, and other plot devices. We will discuss types of mysteries from the hardboiled to the cozy, and the elements and “rules” of each. Other topics will include how to breathe life into protagonists, villains, and other characters. The importance of setting and how it can enhance the story. We will explore the benefits and drawbacks of using first person, third person, or the omniscient point of view. How to successfully use flashbacks, back story, and exposition while avoiding their pitfalls. Author reading, Q&A, book signing, and refreshments.
